| When the flesh was completely decomposed, the bones were gathered and buried in their proper place. The relatives then came and greeted the judges and witnesses, as if to say, we have no [ill feelings] against you in our hearts, for ye gave a true judgment. And they observed no mourning rites but grieved [for him], for grief is borne in the heart alone. |
סנהדרין 6.6 נתאכל הבשר-- היו מלקטין את העצמות, וקוברים אותם במקום׃ והקרובים באים ושואלים את שלום העדים, ואת שלום הדיינין-- כלומר שאין בליבנו עליכם כלום, שדין אמת דנתם׃ ולא היו מתאבלים; אלא אוננים, שאין אנינה אלא בלב |
| Four deaths have been entrusted to Beth Din: stoning, burning, slaying [by the sword] and strangulation. R. Simeon enumerated them thus: burning, stoning, strangulation and slaying. That is the manner of stoning. |
