| היו שם שלשה עשר פרים | there were 13 bulls, |
| ואילים שנים | 2 rams, |
| ושעיר אחד | and 1 goat [that were part of the day's mussaf and which were offered by 16 of the total of 24 watches of kohanim there for the holiday] |
| נשתירו שם ארבעה עשר כבשים | there remained 14 lambs there |
| לשמונה משמרות | for eight [remaining] watches. |
| ביום הראשון | On the first day |
| ששה | 6 [watches] |
| מקריבין שנים שנים | sacrificed 2 [lambs] each |
| והשאר אחד אחד | and the rest [of the remaining 2 watches sacrificed] 1 each. |
| בשני | On the second [day of Sukkos, for which there was one less bull, meaning only 15 watches could share in 12 bulls, 2 rams and 1 goat, leaving 9 watches to divide the 14 lambs] |
| חמשה מקריבין שנים שנים | 5 [watches] sacrificed 2 [lambs each, for 10 of the 14 lambs] |
| והשאר אחד אחד | and the rest [of the remaining 3 watches sacrificed] 1 each [of the remaining 2 lambs]. |
| בשלישי | On the third [day of Sukkos, for which there was one less bull, meaning only 14 watches could share in 11 bulls, 2 rams and 1 goat, leaving 10 watches to divide the 14 lambs] |
| ארבעה מקריבין שנים שנים | 4 [watches] sacrificed 2 [lambs each, for 8 of the 14 lambs] |
| והשאר אחד אחד | and the rest [of the remaining 6 watches sacrificed] 1 each [of the remaining 6 lambs]. |
| ברביעי | On the fourth [day of Sukkos, for which there was one less bull, meaning only 13 watches could share in 10 bulls, 2 rams and 1 goat, leaving 11 watches to divide the 14 lambs] |
| שלשה מקריבין שנים שנים | 3 [watches] sacrificed 2 [lambs each, for 6 of the 14 lambs] |
| והשאר אחד אחד | and the rest [of the remaining 8 watches sacrificed] 1 each [of the remaining 8 lambs]. |

On the fifth [day of Sukkos, for which there was one less bull, meaning only 12 watches could share in 9 bulls, 2 rams and 1 goat, leaving 12 watches to divide the 14 lambs] |
| שנים מקריבין שנים שנים | 2 [watches] sacrificed 2 [lambs each, for 4 of the 14 lambs] |
| והשאר אחד אחד | and the rest [of the remaining 10 watches sacrificed] 1 each [of the remaining 10 lambs]. |
| בששי | On the sixth [day of Sukkos, for which there was one less bull, meaning only 11 watches could share in 8 bulls, 2 rams and 1 goat, leaving 13 watches to divide the 14 lambs] |
| אחד מקריב שנים | 1 [watch] sacrificed 2 [lambs each, for 2 of the 14 lambs] |
| והשאר אחד אחד | and the rest [of the remaining 12 watches sacrificed] 1 each [of the remaining 12 lambs]. |
| בשביעי | On the seventh [day of Sukkos, for which there was one less bull, meaning only 10 watches could share in 7 bulls, 2 rams and 1 goat, leaving 14 watches for the 14 lambs |
| כולן שוין | all of them were equal (i.e. each offered 1 animal of the 24 total sacrificed). |
| בשמיני | On the eighth (i.e. Shemini Atzeres, when only 1 bull, 1 ram, 1 goat, and 7 lambs were offered) |
| חזרו לפיס כברגלים | they went back to a lottery system as by the [other] holidays. |
| אמרו | They said |
| מי שהקריב פרים היום | "Whosoever offers bulls today |
| לא יקריב למחר | may not offer them tomorrow, |
| אלא חוזרין חלילה | but must return to the rotation." |

| בשלשה פרקים בשנה |
On three times of the year (i.e. the Sholosh Regalim) |
| היו כל משמרות שוות | all the watches were equal [in sharing in] |
| באמורי הרגלים | in the prescribed [offerings] of the holidays |
| ובחלוק לחם הפנים |
and in sharing the Lechem HaPanim |
| בעצרת אומרים לו | On Shvuos they woukld say to him a (a kohen): |
| הילך מצה הילך חמץ | here is matzah (i.e. Lechem HaPanim) for you, here is bread (of the two loaves made special for that day) for you. |
| משמר שזמנו קבוע | The watch whose time is set, |
| הוא מקריב | it would sacrifice |
| תמידין נדרים ונדבות | daily sacrifices, vowed sacrifices, donated sacrifices, |
| ושאר קרבנות צבור | and the other public sacrifices, |
| ומקריב את הכל | and would offer everything. |
| יום טוב הסמוך לשבת | Yom tov that was next to Shabbos |
| בין מלפניה בין לאחריה | whether before or after it |
| היו כל המשמרות שוות | all the watches were equal |
| בחלוק לחם הפנים | in sharing in the Lechem HaPanim. |
