| ההלל והשמחה שמונה | [The mitzvah of] Hallel and simcha for eight [days] |
| כיצד | was done how? |
| מלמד שחיב אדם | [This statement was in the first mishna of this perek] to teach that a person is obligated |
| בהלל ובשמחה | in the mitzvah of Hallel and celebrating |
| ובכבוד יום טוב האחרון של חג | and in honoring the last day of yom tov of Succos (i.e. Shemini Atzeres) |
| כשאר כל ימות החג | like all the other days of Succos. |
| סכה שבעה כיצד | [The mitzvah of] succah for seven [days] was done how? |
| גמר מלאכול | When one finished eating [in the succah on Hoshana Rabba] |
| לא יתיר סכתו | he should not disassemble his succah, |
| אבל מוריד הכלים | just remove the furnishings [from the succah to the house] |
| מן המנחה ולמעלה | from the afternoon and on |
| מפני כבוד יום טוב האחרון של חג | for the sake of the last day of yom tov of Succos (i.e. Shemini Atzeres). |

| נסוך המים כיצד | How was the water libation done? |
| צלוחית של זהב | a pitcher of gold |
| מחזקת שלשת לגים | holding three lugim |
| היה ממלא מן השלוח | was filled from the Shiloach (a spring near Jerusalem). |
| הגיעו לשער המים | When they [the water carriers] reach the Water Gate |
| תקעו והריעו ותקעו | they sounded a tekiah, a teruah, and a tekiah. |
| עלה בכבש | [The cohen performing the libation] would go up the ramp [to the altar] |
| ופנה לשמאלו | and turn to his left [to the altar's south-west corner], |
| שני ספלים של כסף היו שם | there were two bowls of silver there [one for the wine libation, one for the water]; |
| רבי יהודה אומר | Rebbi Yehuda said |
| של סיד היו | they were of plaster |
| אלא שהיו משחרים פניהם | but looked silver because their surfaces were darkened |
| מפני היין | from the wine; |
| ומנקבין | and they had holes |
| כמין שני חוטמין דקין | like two thin nostrils |
| אחד מעבה ואחד דק | one thick and one thin |
| כדי שיהו שניהם כלין בבת אחת |
so that the two [bowls] would empty at the same time. |
| מערבי של מים | The western [bowl] was for water |
| מזרחי של יין | the eastern [bowl] was for wine |
| ערה של מים לתוך של יין | if he poured the water into the wine [bowl] |
| או של יין לתוך של מים | or the wine into the water [bowl] |
| יצא | he fulfilled [the mitzvah]. |
| רבי יהודה אומר | Rebbi Yehuda said |
| בלג היה מנסך כל שמונה | with one lug he would libate all eight [days]. |
| ולמנסך אומרים לו | And to the one libating, they would say to him |
| הגבה ידך | "Raise your hands", |
| שפעם אחת | for one time |
| נסך אחד על גבי רגליו | one poured [the water] on his feet |
| ורגמוהו כל העם באתרוגיהן | and they pelted him with their esrogs. |

והשמחה - Even In this context, שמחה refers to the meat that was eaten with the קרבן שלמים.

טכמין שני חוטמין דקין - According to רש"י, these had spout-like protuberances, like nostrils; תוספות on the other hand says that they had drainpipes running from the bowls into the altar.
ורגמוהו כל העם באתרוגיהן - Because the נסוך המים is a הלכה למשה מסיני, such an act demonstrated allegiance with the צדוקים.
