61:10 What does one bless ? If one does not have a field, one says: ''We give
thanks to You, O Lord our G-d, for each and every drop which You brought down
for us. Were our mouths to be filled with song ...'' (as in the prayer ''The
breath of every living being ...'' ) until ''and they should sanctify and
proclaim the sovereignty of Your name, our King. Blessed are You, G-d, the
Almighty, of many thanks and praise.'' If one does has a field in partnership
with another Jew, one blesses ''who is good and does good''. If he does not have
a Jewish partner with the field, even though he has a wife and sons,1 he blesses
''...who has kept us in life...''. The blessing ''who is good and does good''
and the blessing ''...who has kept us in life...'' can be blessed even though
one does not see the rain, but one has heard that rain is falling. However, the
blessing ''We give thanks unto You'' is not said except by one who saw the rain.

62:1 One needs to be very careful not to take advantage1 of another,2
and every one who takes advantage of another, whether as a seller taking
advantage of a buyer, or as a buyer taking advantage of a seller,
trangresses a negative commandment. As it is said:3 ''If you sell
anything to your neighbour, or buy anything from your neighbours hand,
do not cheat one another.'' This is the first question that one is asked
when he is entered into the (heavenly) court: ''Have you bought and sold
in good faith ?''4
1) To have (unfair) benefit. 2) The word used here is ''Chaver'' which normally means one's friend or acquaintance, but in this context really means one's fellow man. 3) Leviticus 25:14 4) See Shabbat 31a. |

| 62:2 Just as one is forbidden to take cheat in buying and selling, similarly one is forbidden to cheat a hired worker, contractors, or when changing money. | כשם שיש איסור אונאה במשא ומתן כך יש איסור אונאה בשכירות ובקבלנות ובחילוף מטבע |
