| 2:3 The (ritual) washing of hands in the
morning is performed as follows: Take a cup (of water) with the right
hand and put it in the left; first pour water upon the right hand. Then
take the cup back in the right hand and pour water on the left. This
(performance) is repeated three times*. It is best to pour the water up
to the wrists, but in case of emergency it is enough up to the joints of
the fingers. One washes one's face in honor of the Creator, as it is
said: (1) ''For in the image of G-d He hath made the man.'' One also
rinses the mouth, because of the mucus (saliva) in it, and we need to
pronounce the Great Name in purity and cleanliness. Afterwards he dries
his hands. He should be careful to dry his face well. (1) Genesis 9:6 *MB - Some say to wash 4 times - the last one to wash away the impure water |
נטילת ידים שחרית הוא בדרך זה נוטל את הכלי ביד ימינו ונותנו לשמאלו ושופך תחלה על יד ימין ואחר כך נוטל את הכלי בימינו ושופך על יד שמאל וכן יעשה שלש פעמים* וטוב ליטלם עד פרק הזרוע אך בשעת הדחק די עד קשרי אצבעותיו ורוחץ פניו לכבוד יוצרו שנאמר כי בצלם אלהים עשה את האדם וגם ירחץ פיו מפני הרירין שבתוכו שצריך להזכיר את השם הגדול בקדושה ובטהרה ואחר כך מנגב ידיו ויזהר לנגב פניו יפה |
| 2:4 He should wash his hands into a vessel
only. It is forbidden to have benefit from the (hand washing) water,
because an evil spirit rests on it, (1) and it must be spilt in a place
where people do not walk.
(1) It is therefore contaminated, and injurious to health. |
צריך ליטול ידיו דוקא לתוך כלי ואסור ליהנות ממי הנטילה מפני שרוח רעה שורה עליהם וישפכם במקום שאין בני אדם הולכין |
| 2:5 One should not touch, before the
(morning hand) washing, neither the mouth, nor the nose, and not the
eyes, and not the ears, and not the (anus) lower orifice nor (any kind
of) food, or a place that is bleeding, because the evil spirit that
rests upon the hands before (the hand) washing will cause injury to
these things.* * And Therefore one should be careful that even minors should wash their hands |
לא יגע קודם נטילה לא בפה ולא בחוטם ולא בעינים ולא באזנים ולא בפי הטבעת ולא באוכלין ולא במקום הקזה מפני שרוח רעה השורה על הידים קודם נטילה מזיק לדברים אלו |
