199:6 We don't bury a wicked person next to a righteous person, as it is
said:1 ''Gather not my soul with sinners'' Even a very wicked person
next to a less wicked person, one shouldn't bury. Similarly, we don't
bury a righteous person, and even more so, a person of average piety,
next to an especially pious person. Two who hated each other, are not
buried next to each other, for also in their death they won't have rest
together.
1) Psalms 26:9. | אין קוברין רשע אצל צדיק שנאמר אל תאסוף עם חטאים נפשי ואפילו רשע חמור אצל רשע קל אין קוברים וכן אין קוברים צדיק וכל שכן בינוני וכשר אצל חסיד מופלג שנים שהיו שונאים זה לזה אין לקברם יחד שגם במותם אין להם מנוחה יחד |
| 199:7 The custom is to be careful not to take the hoe or the pick-axe from another's hand when they are burying the deceased, rather one throws it down from his hand and the other picks it up. | המנהג להקפיד שלא ליקח מרא או חצינא מיד חברו כשקוברין את המת אלא זה זורקו מידו וזה נוטלו |
