| 165:8 From the halacha it's allowed for a Jewish baby to be breast fed by a Gentile woman, yet, if possible, it should be done by a Jewess. We didn't leave this, that is breast feeding from a Gentile, because the milk is unclean, and leads to a bad temperament. 165:9 Every father is obliged to teach his son Torah, as it's said:1
''And you shall teach them your children to talk of them'' and just as
it's a mitzvah to teach his son, so it's a mitzvah to teach his
grandson, as it's said:2 ''and make them known to your children and to
your grandchildren''.

165:10 As soon as the child starts to talk, one teaches him the verse:1
''Moshe commanded us a Torah...'' and also the verse:2 ''Hear O
Israel...'' (only one should be very careful that the child is clean
while he's teaching him) Similarly, one slowly teaches him some verses,
until he's old enough to go to school, then he should hire a teacher for
him, and take care to choose a teacher who is G-d fearing, so that the
child will become accustomed from his youth to fearing G-d. When the
child comes to learn chumash, it's usual to start with him on Parshat
Veyikra,3 which is the section on the sacrifices, as said our Rabbis, of
blessed memory:4 ''the pure ones will come'' (that is the children of
the Rabbi's house) ''and occupy (themselves) with the pure ones''.5
