143:4 If his father or mother was sleeping, and the keys to the son's
shop are under their head, it's forbidden to wake them from their sleep,
even though he will lose a lot of money.1 However, if his father will
profit by being woken up, and if not woken up he will be distressed
about being prevented from making this profit, it's a mizvah to wake him
up, since he will be happy about that. Similarly, it's a mitzvah to wake
him up to go to the synagogue, or for any other mizvah, since every one
is obliged to honor the Omnipresent,2 Blessed be He.

היה אביו או אמו ישנים ומפתח חנותו של הבן תחת ראשיהם אסור להקיצם משנתם אף על פי שיפסיד ריוח הרבה אבל אם יגיע ריוח לאביו אם יקיצו ואם לא יקיצו יצטער על מניעת הריוח מצוה להקיצו כיון שישמח בזה וכן מצוה להקיצו ללכת לבית הכנסת או לשאר דבר מצוה מפני שכולם חייבים בכבוד המקום ברוך הוא |
| 143:5 He needed something in the town, and he knows that they will supply this for his father, even though he knows that they will also do this for him, he shouldn't say: ''do this for me'' rather he should say: ''do this for my father'' in order to bring honor to his father. | היה צריך לאיזה דבר בעיר ויודע שישלימו חפצו בשביל אביו אף על פי שיודע שגם בשבילו יעשוהו לו לא יאמר עשו לי בשבילי אלא יאמר עשו לי בשביל אבא כדי לתלות הכבוד באביו |

143:6 His mother said to him: ''do this'' and he did, and afterwards,
his father came and asked him: ''who told you to do this ?'' and he
feels that if he says that his mother told him, his father will be angry
at his mother, he shouldn't tell him that his mother told him to do this
thing, even though by doing this1 his father will be angry at him.
1) Not telling him that it was his mother who told him to do this. | אמרה לו אמו עשה זאת ועשה ואחר כך בא אביו ושאל אותו מי אמר לך לעשות זאת והוא מרגיש שאם יאמר שאמו אמרה לו יכעוס אביו על אמו אל יאמר לו שאמו אמרה לו לעשות הדבר אף על פי שעל ידי כן יכעוס האב עליו |
