125:4 (When) the ninth of Av comes on Shabbat one should be strict, and
not learn, except those topics which are permitted to learn on the ninth
of Av. Therefore, one should not say the Ethics of the Fathers, but to
read the (weekly) portion twice as written and once from the (Aramaic)
translation is permitted,1 and certainly not before midday. If (Shabbat)
falls the day before the ninth of Av, it is forbidden after midday to
study, just as on a regular ninth of Av.
1) It is the custom to make sure one understands the weekly Torah reading, before one hears it in the synagogue, by reading it twice over in the original Hebrew text and then again in the Aramaic translation by Onkelos. Formerly, the Torah was read three verses at a time and then the translation of those three verses was read. 125:5 Before the evening prayers we do not say1 ''For the Chief
Musician. On Neginot.'', and we do not say ''And let the graciousness of
the Lord'' before ''But You are holy'' because it concerns the
establishment of the Sanctuary which is now destroyed. Also we do not
say ''And G-d give you of the dew of the heaven'' and not the blessing
on the children.2
