104:15 Accounts and the like, which if not written down they will be forgotten, one is allowed to write them, because this is like something that would be lost.1 Similarly, something for the sake of the festival Intermediate days, is allowed to be written down, but anything else is forbidden to write. A personal letter that one writes to a friend, is customary to write with a small change, for example, by writing the first row slanted. For everything that's allowed to be written, it's also allowed to prepare the pen and ink.2

חשבונות וכיוצא בזה שאם לא יכתבם ישכחם מותר לכתבם משום דהוי דבר האבד וכן מה שהוא לצורך המועד מותר לכתוב אבל שאר דבר אסור לכתוב ואגרת שלומים שכותב אדם לחברו נוהגין לכתוב בשינוי קצת דהיינו שכותבין שורה הראשונה עקומה ולכל מה שמותר לכתוב מותר גם כן לתקן קולמוס ודיו
104:16 One who needs money, even not for the sake of the festival Intermediate days, rather one's afraid in case one won't find a loaner after the festival, and the one loaning (the money) doesn't want to loan to him without a promissory note, one's allowed to write the promissory note. מי שצריך למעות אפילו שלא לצורך המועד אלא שהוא חושש פן לא ימצא ללוות לאחר המועד והמלוה אינו רוצה להלוות לו בלי שטר מותר לו לכתוב את השטר
