רואין אותו כאילו | We imagine it as if |
מטוטלת תלויה בו | a plumb bob is hanging from it |

וכן בדלית | and similarly by [the offshoot of] a single unsupported vine |

סיפקה בחבל או בגמי | if he extended it with a rope or reeds |
תחת הסיפוק מותר | under the extension it is permitted |
עשאו כדי שיהלך עליו החדש | If he made them [the extension] for new growth to go on |
אסור | It is prohibited |
NOTES
משנה ח
חס עליהן לפסקן - The point is that the reasons for not cutting them has nothing to do with the grapevines, and so they are not considered part of the latticework of the עריס.
משנה ט
כנגדו אסור - This case is where the offshoot extends beyond the vine's workspace, as the space beneath it would otherwise be prohibited anyways.
סיפקה בחבל או בגמי - The vine was not long enough to reach the tree, so it was extended by use of a rope or reed.
