פרק א משנה ח

This  mishnah refers to various rites performed when bringing a sacrifice in the Beis Hamikdosh

 

הסמיכות

The leaning [on the head of one's sacrifice before it is slaughtered]

והתנופות

and the waving [the chest, thigh and certain entrails from one's sacrifice, done by the person bringing the korban as well as by the kohen]

וההגשות

and the bringing [a korban mincha] close [to the mizbeiach, which is done by a kohen]

והקמיצות

and the taking grain from a korban mincha in the three middle-most fingers [which is done by a kohen]

וההקטרות

and the burning [of a korban on the the mizbeiach, which is done by a kohen]

והמליקות 

and the slaughtering a bird by slicing its neck with a fingernail [which is done by a kohen]

וההזאות והקבלות

and the sprinkling and receiving [the blood of a korban, which is done by a kohen]

נוהגות באנשים

are conducted by men

ואינן נוהגות בנשים

and are not conducted by women

חוץ ממנחת סוטה ונזירה

except for the korban mincha of a sotah or a nezirah

שהן מניפות

as they wave them.

   
פרק א משנה ט
כל מצוה שהיא תלויה בארץ

Every commandment that is contingent on land

אינה נוהגת אלא בארץ

is only performed in the Land [of Israel]

ושאינה תלויה בארץ

and that which is not contingent on land

נוהגת בין בארץ בין בחוץ לארץ

is performed both in the Land and outside of the Land

חוץ מן הערלה

except for orlah [the restrictions on a new tree's first three years of fruit]

והכלאים

and kilayim [the restrictions on planting certain species together];

ורבי אליעזר אומר

and Rabbi Eliezer says

אף החדש

also chodosh [the prohibition on consuming wheat planted and harvested after on Pesach until after the next Pesach].

   

NOTES

משנה ט

מצוה שהיא תלויה בארץ - Such as תרומה or מעשר.

והכלאים - This particular הלכה is only applied in חוץ לארץ by a הלכה למשה מסני.
