One who slaughters [a wild animal or bird] and found it to be a tereifah,

or slaughtered for an idol  (and is therefore prohibited to be benefited from),

or slaughter an unconsecrated animal within [the Temple],

or a consecrated animal outside [the Temple],

or a wild animal or bird that have been condemned to be stoned to death,

Rabbi Meir obligates [one to cover the blood of such an animal] (he holds that shechitah that does not lead to consumable meat is still considered shechitah such that one is obligated to cover the blood)

and the Sages exempt [one from covering the blood of such an animal].

If one slaughters [a wild animal or bird] and it became a neveilah by his hand (the slaughtering was done improperly, such that it is as if it was not slaughtered at all),

or he stabbed it to death,

or he tore [the throat out, or the organs therein],

he is exempt from covering [its blood].

If a deaf-mute, a mental incompetent, or a minor slaughtered [a wild animal or bird],

and other observed them [such that their slaughter is considered valid],

[the observer] is obligated to cover [the blood];

if it [the slaughter] by themselves

[a competent person who later happens upon the blood] is exempt from covering it (as we can assume that the slaughter was not valid).

And similarly for the issue of [the prohibition of slaughtering] it and its child [on the same day],

when they [a deaf-mute, a mental incompetent, or a minor] slaughtered and others observed them [such that their slaughter is considered valid],

it is forbidden to slaughter [the animal's mother or child] after them [on the same day];

if [the slaughter was done by an unobserved deaf-mute, a mental incompetent, or a minor] by themselves,

Rabbi Meir permitted

to slaughter [the animal's mother or child] after them [on the same day] (he said that we can assume that the slaughter was not valid)

and the Sages prohibited it;

and they conceded that if he did slaughter it

that he does not received the forty [lashes] (they held to only be a possible, though not certain, violation of the prohibition).
